This worksheet includes gist and detailed listening questions related to a YouTube video about Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes Night). Answer key is included for the worksheets.
This is a British holiday which is celebrated on November 5th. The tradition started to celebrate the failure of a plan to blow up King James I and the Houses of Parliament in 1605 (otherwise known as The Gunpowder Plot). 'Guys' are burned on top of bonfires, fireworks are set off and baked potatoes and toffee apples are typical foods eaten at this time. The poem is slightly different on the worksheet to what the girl quotes in the video. There is a good one at http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/guy/rhymes.htm.
